Two Legendary Pink Bots

I just came from seeing Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.

Delighted to finally see some ladybots in the films, but I was a bit bummed that Arcee didn't get more screen time.

This li'l snippet, compliments of Wikipedia, explains, if not excuses, why:

"Arcee was initially meant to appear in the 2007 film... but was ultimately dropped from it due to concerns of her being too small compared to the other bots, and the fact that the writers felt there was not enough time to explain her "gender" (Transformers comic continuity stated that they don't have sexes, but she was introduced in issue #234 of the U.K. Marvel series to appease feminists - who hated her because she was pink) . Whether to explain robotic gender or not was something the writers were unsure about... the issue eventually remaining unaddressed in the finished movie"

Joan Rivers will always have a special li'l place in my heart, not just because she was the queen of the one-liners when I was growing up, but because she was my father's most hated celebrity; he literally (and without fail) would yell "whore!", "bitch!", or "fuckin' cunt!" every-time an ad for her appearing on a talk show or guest hosting The Tonight Show would pop up.

Which always broke up the monotony of forced family time viewing...

The Clinkers

Dear God in heaven, how to explain Shields and Yarnell?

He was the Marcel Marceau of Union Square, San Francisco, she was a tap dancing actress. They fell in love and formed a mime duo famous for their characters The Clinkers; known for their slow and deliberate robo-animatronic movements.
This, being the coked up '70's, led to appearances on The Muppet Show, The Red Skeleton Show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, touring China with Bob Hope, performing for Queen Elizabeth II and TWO American presidents, and finally their own t.v. show in 1972!
My parents watched it religiously, so each week, for 45 minutes, my poor growing four year old brain was irradiated with wordless robotic mime vaudville of the most disturbing order.
I actually remembered their "variety" hour as being a cartoon, until it came up again in my teens and, contesting the absurdity of my friend's contradiction wildly, I was shown evidence that they were indeed actual flesh and blood human beings.

Sadly, even the best of times don't last long for a mime.
