The Winsome Wasp

I've always been a big fan of the (sadly deceased before her recent ill advised quasi-ressurection as a sub atomic celestial entity) winsome Wasp - as a wee fag I'd thrill to this heiress/fashion designer/original Avenger's monthly costume changes, so you can imagine my delight when I found all of them together in one place!

In An Age Of Monsters, HE Was The Mightiest Of All!

Jack Kirby's Devil Dinosaur only lasted nine issues, but not for want of Kirby-ness.

Starring the Lucille Ball of T-Rex's, Devil Dinosaur, it also featured his best friend/jockey Moon Boy, assorted robots, a revisionist alien intervention Adam & Eve story, time travel, The Hag Of The Bog, Manhattan, and...

...giant ants!

Satana, The Devil's Daughter 2

The other thing about Satana is that she has no talent for brief introductions.

These pages are from a two part Marvel Team-Up crossover featuring Spider-Man, Satana, Dr. Strange & Clea...

...the month after seeing that cliffhanger splash page of Satana may have been the longest one of my eleven year old life!

Satana, The Devil's Daughter 1

I've already pulled over a thousand comics for my sidewalk sale this Saturday, but the purge-athon is still running.
I was trying to figure out why I'd kept a crumbling issue of Marvel Premiere # 27 featuring Satana, The Devil's Daughter (whom I love, but the story and art is truly awful), when I ran across the answer in a four page back-up/solicitation for an ongoing series.

Which, though uncredited, I'm pretty sure is by John Romita Sr.

Egg Salad Days

Iron Fist meets the X-Men for the first time (accidentally crashing a party at Jean Grey and Misty Knights apartment, mistaken for a villain by a claw first ask questions later Wolverine), in this comic I bought for .30 cents thirty years ago.

And Storm discovers that she doesn't like egg salad.

Menage A Mutant

Friends of mine (in a mock-to-mime post L Word move) tried this once drunk at Tattooed Mom's; it was slightly less complicated, but there were a helluva' lot more Wolverines...

Someone - obviously not hampered by too many colored lines himself (and yes, I am quite confident that it was a "he") took the time to chronicle the last forty years of The X-Men's sexual shenanigans.

The full sized flowchart is here:

I don't know what's sadder: that I got totally sucked in by this, or Caliban's chance of ever getting a blowjob.

Two Legendary Pink Bots

I just came from seeing Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.

Delighted to finally see some ladybots in the films, but I was a bit bummed that Arcee didn't get more screen time.

This li'l snippet, compliments of Wikipedia, explains, if not excuses, why:

"Arcee was initially meant to appear in the 2007 film... but was ultimately dropped from it due to concerns of her being too small compared to the other bots, and the fact that the writers felt there was not enough time to explain her "gender" (Transformers comic continuity stated that they don't have sexes, but she was introduced in issue #234 of the U.K. Marvel series to appease feminists - who hated her because she was pink) . Whether to explain robotic gender or not was something the writers were unsure about... the issue eventually remaining unaddressed in the finished movie"

Pussies.

To help even the cosmic scales of robo-misogyny, I also present Arcee's white-trash not quite kissing Gundam cousin, Lacee.

To Hela And Back Again

One of my favorite X-mas presents ever, this oversized fluorescent black light painting of Hela, the norse goddess of death, made it well into my '30's before I decided to roll it up and hide it away in a closet corner in the name of Not Good But Slightly Less Horrific taste.

But, despite our parting, my love for Hela is as unfaltering as her headdresses...

First off, she killed that crashing dullard Thor not once, but twice (can you imagine the talk about that at DeathGodCon '71?)...

...she always looked her best, even if only to spend another day watching her slow shufflin' souls stumble about Nifelheim and Hel (which, frankly, got a bit dull, thus her taste for extracurricular drama)...

...her style was classic, but she liked to shake it up a little (or sometimes, a lot) ...

...and even at her most casual (like a proper goddess)...

...you never saw her without her headdress on.
